Author Guidelines

JBMIS welcomes original, high-quality manuscripts that align with the aims and scope of the Journal of Business, Management and Information Systems (JBMIS) and offer a meaningful contribution to research, theory, or professional practice within the fields covered by the journal.

All submitted manuscripts are first reviewed by the editorial team before being sent for peer review. During this initial screening, the Editor considers several factors, including the manuscript's relevance to the journal's aims and scope, originality, scholarly contribution, methodological quality, clarity, and compliance with the journal's submission requirements.

Manuscripts that meet the journal's initial requirements may proceed to peer review in accordance with JBMIS's peer-review policy. The final decision to accept, request revisions, or reject a manuscript is made by the Editor, taking into account the reviewers' recommendations and the journal's editorial standards.

By submitting a manuscript to JBMIS, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published previously, and is not currently under consideration by another journal or publication venue. All individuals listed as authors must have made a meaningful contribution to the work, approved the submitted version of the manuscript, and agreed to be identified as authors.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards. Where required, research involving human participants, organizations, confidential information, or other ethically sensitive data should have received approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board, in accordance with the requirements of the country or institution where the research was conducted.

Authors should also disclose any relevant conflicts of interest, sources of funding, or other circumstances that could reasonably influence the interpretation or presentation of their research.

Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to reproduce or publish any copyrighted or third-party material included in their submission. This may include figures, tables, photographs, questionnaires, documents, datasets, or other materials. Where relevant, authors should also provide clear information about the availability, accessibility, and ethical use of the research data supporting their study.

The Editor may reject a manuscript without sending it for external peer review if it falls outside the journal's aims and scope, lacks sufficient originality or scholarly contribution, raises significant methodological or ethical concerns, does not meet acceptable standards of academic writing and presentation, or does not comply with the journal's submission requirements.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that the research question, study design, methodology, analysis, results, and overall scholarly argument are presented clearly and logically. The title should be concise, specific, and informative. The abstract should provide a clear and self-contained overview of the study's purpose, methodology, key findings, and contribution.

Authors are strongly encouraged to carefully proofread their manuscripts before submission and ensure that they follow all formatting, referencing, and submission requirements specified by JBMIS.

Once authors are satisfied that their manuscript meets these requirements, they should review and complete the Submission Preparation Checklist before proceeding with their submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript to JBMIS, authors should carefully review the following checklist and confirm that all applicable requirements have been met:

  • The manuscript falls within the aims and scope of JBMIS.

  • The work is original, has not been published previously, and is not currently being considered for publication by another journal or publication venue.

  • All listed authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and have agreed to its submission to JBMIS.

  • The manuscript has been carefully proofread and prepared in accordance with the journal's formatting and submission requirements.

  • The title and abstract accurately and clearly reflect the purpose, methodology, key findings, and contribution of the study.

  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness, and all tables and figures are properly numbered, titled, and cited within the manuscript.

  • Where applicable, all necessary ethical approvals, informed consent, organizational permissions, and other required research authorizations have been obtained.

  • All relevant sources of funding, as well as any actual or potential conflicts of interest, have been appropriately disclosed.

  • Permission has been obtained to use or reproduce any copyrighted or third-party material included in the manuscript.

  • Where applicable, appropriate information about the availability of research data and supplementary materials has been provided.

  • All information entered into the online submission system is complete, accurate, and consistent with the submitted manuscript.

By completing this checklist, authors confirm that their manuscript is ready for initial editorial screening and, if considered suitable, for peer review.

Privacy Statement

1. Information We Collect

JBMIS may collect personal information from users when they register on the journal website, submit or review a manuscript, or otherwise interact with the journal. This information may include:

  • Name, email address, institutional affiliation, country, and other contact details;

  • Username and account-related information;

  • Academic biography, research interests, and ORCID identifier;

  • Manuscripts, supplementary materials, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, and revision records;

  • Information provided during registration, manuscript submission, peer review, or communication with the journal; and

  • Technical information, such as IP addresses, browser types, access logs, and cookies.

2. How We Use Personal Information

JBMIS collects and uses personal information only for purposes related to the operation and management of the journal. This may include:

  • Managing manuscript submissions, peer review, editorial processes, and publication;

  • Communicating with authors, reviewers, editors, and readers;

  • Maintaining the integrity, quality, and security of the scholarly record;

  • Detecting plagiarism, research misconduct, fraud, or misuse of the journal platform;

  • Preparing internal reports and anonymized statistics;

  • Registering and distributing published articles through DOI registration agencies, indexing services, libraries, archives, and scholarly databases; and

  • Meeting applicable legal, regulatory, contractual, and research-integrity obligations.

JBMIS does not sell or rent personal information and does not use it for unrelated commercial purposes.

3. Publication of Author Information

When an article is accepted and published, certain author information—including names, institutional affiliations, ORCID identifiers, biographies, and designated contact details—may be made publicly available as part of the published article and the permanent scholarly record.

Information related to rejected or withdrawn manuscripts will generally remain confidential, subject to applicable legal requirements and the journal's obligations regarding record retention and research integrity.

4. Peer-Review Confidentiality

JBMIS treats manuscripts, reviewer identities, review reports, editorial decisions, and related correspondence as confidential. The handling of this information follows the journal's peer-review model and editorial policies.

Access is limited to authorized editors, reviewers, journal staff, and service providers who need the information to carry out their responsibilities.

5. Disclosure to Third Parties

JBMIS may share personal information with trusted third-party organizations when necessary to support the journal's operations. These organizations may include:

  • Website hosting and technical support providers;

  • Open Journal Systems (OJS) service providers;

  • DOI registration agencies;

  • Plagiarism detection and research-integrity services;

  • Manuscript production, preservation, and archiving services; and

  • Abstracting, indexing, and scholarly discovery services.

These third parties may use personal information only to provide the relevant services or to meet applicable legal obligations.

JBMIS may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to investigate suspected research misconduct, security incidents, or violations of journal policies.

6. Cookies and Website Analytics

The JBMIS website may use essential cookies to support functions such as user authentication, website navigation, language preferences, and session management.

If analytics tools or other non-essential cookies are used, users will be informed and, where required by applicable law, their consent will be obtained.

7. Data Retention

JBMIS retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the journal, maintain the scholarly record, resolve disputes, address ethical concerns, and meet legal or contractual obligations.

Information associated with published articles may be retained permanently, as published research forms part of the long-term scholarly record.

8. Data Security

JBMIS takes reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, loss, or misuse.

However, while we take appropriate steps to protect information, no online system can guarantee complete security.

9. International Data Processing

Scholarly publishing is an international activity. As a result, personal information may be accessed, processed, or stored in countries outside a user's province or country of residence.

When this occurs, JBMIS will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information receives an appropriate level of protection. Users should also be aware that information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.

10. User Rights

Depending on applicable law, users may have the right to request:

  • Access to their personal information;

  • Correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;

  • Withdrawal of consent when processing is based on consent;

  • Deactivation of their journal account; or

  • Deletion of personal information that JBMIS is not legally or ethically required to retain.

Some information may need to be retained to protect the integrity of the peer-review process, maintain editorial records, preserve published scholarship, or comply with legal and ethical obligations.

11. Email Communications

JBMIS may send users necessary operational communications related to their accounts, manuscript submissions, peer-review activities, editorial decisions, and publication.

Promotional announcements and newsletters will only be sent where permitted by applicable law. Recipients may unsubscribe from promotional communications at any time.

12. Changes to This Privacy Statement

JBMIS may update this Privacy Statement from time to time to reflect changes in its practices, technology, or legal obligations.

Any updated version will be published on the journal website and will include the effective date and the date of the most recent revision.
